Within the period of January-September 2008, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine received more than 65 thousand citizens´ motions, appeals and complaints. This number has increased by 10 thousand as compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. According to the Citizens´ Applications Office of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate, citizens´ activity can be explained by intensified responses of the citizens to the issues concerning provision of legitimacy and law-enforcement, reforming of economy, development of Ukrainian State.
For the relevant period, The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committees scrutinized 14 thousand citizens´ appeals. The Deputy Factions scrutinized 7 thousand appeals; structural subdivisions of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine scrutinized 44 970 motions, appeals and complaints of the citizens.
The citizens´ letters addressed to The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine raised 70 144 issues. 33,7% appertain to the issues of legitimacy provision and law-enforcement, 14,7% - to social protection and provision of pensions, 11,4% - to the reforming of economy, market relations, entrepreneurship, privatization, policy of rates and taxes, 7,1% - to housing and communal and road services, 6,2% - to the responses to the events in the country and abroad, activities of The Verkhovna Rada, the President and the Cabinet of Ministers, the People´s Deputies of Ukraine, public authorities.
Ukrainian Parliament received also citizens´ motions, appeals and complaints appertaining to the issues of labour (2743), religion (2212), public health (1763), agriculture (991), and land relations (833).
40 private receptions were held at the reception office of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in compliance with the resolution of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Within nine months of the current year, the People´s Deputies of Ukraine and their assistants were addressed by 261 418 electors. They scrutinized 127 258 written appeals, held 28 195 private receptions and 65 264 meetings with electors.
